The Board Inn, Knaresborough
Restoring the roof of The Board Inn was a project that combined heritage preservation with modern craftsmanship. The front of the building featured historic oak beams believed to have come from an old ship. Sadly, time had taken its toll, and these beams had started to rot. Our team carefully assessed the structure, replacing the damaged timbers with new ones to ensure the roof’s integrity while respecting the building’s character.
Once the structural repairs were complete, we began the roofing work. New felt and laths were installed, providing a solid foundation for the slate. Wherever possible, we reused the original slates to preserve the authentic appearance of the roof, supplementing them with carefully sourced matching slate to complete the job.
Although no decorative patterns, like diamonds, were included in this project, every detail mattered. All the leadwork was replaced with precision, ensuring the roof is fully watertight and built to last.
This project was about more than just replacing a roof—it was about preserving a piece of history and enhancing it for the future. At Hazelgrave Roofing, we take pride in delivering work that respects tradition while ensuring modern durability and performance.
